Yellow, Yellow, Yellow

Co-Director, Architect, Co-Deviser, Clown

An exploration of hysteria, madness, and manipulation in a haunted circus. Inspired by “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

During the performance, the Ringmaster guides four Clowns, a Contortionist, and the Moon through their act--until the Moon runs away from the circus and the Ringmaster begins to lose control.

“yellow yellow yellow” was originally workshopped at The Orchard Project in New York, and performed in collaboration with Red Balloon Theatre Collective and Cambria Herrera in Portland, OR. The performance incorporates clowning, surrealism, and verbatim text from turn-of-the-century “medical documents” on the relationship between perceptions of lunacy and femininity.
