Manifesto
“Witness something Portland theaters attempt often and rarely pull off: a successful site-specific, gender non-conforming, multimedia play.” — Enid Spitz, Willamette Week, May 2016
Manifesto is a devised performance based on the document Elliot Rodger wrote before carrying out the 2014 Isla Vista killings. Using only verbatim text from Reddit “incel” threads and the shooter’s misogynist manifesto, this experimental piece grapples with how society continues to define and intertwine masculinity and violence. The performance was devised and performed in a therapist's office and incorporated video, music, and atypical, abstract use of the space.
Manifesto was devised in collaboration with Solveig Esteva in 2016 with a 2017 revival.
